EUROPE: A POWDER KEG ONCE AGAIN
Yours truly on Germany's energy crisis:"The cutoff of Russian gas to Germany is killing Germany. Germany is paying 3X more for LNG gas imports than it did for Russian gas. On top of that, Germany is having to pay Russia for gas it's not taking because of take-or-pay contracts." pic.twitter.com/oADy830VjB— Steve Hanke (@steve_hanke) November 29, 2025
Tucker's podcast from the UK set me off wondering what needs to happen to a people to become so demoralized. Defeat is a psychological state of mind. You have to give up. It's the realization you can't possibly win.
Realism dictates that they should be aware of the impending catastrophe in the war in Ukraine, and somewhere, deep down in their hearts they must know that the gig is up. But they're not willing to concede, not just yet.
The nobility class in Europe is out of touch with reality yet still maintains power over institutions and corporations that nothing will change unless a radical populist movement really overheats in the next few years & the common folk elect radicals willing to break things

Tucker's incisive observations sent me on a wild goose chase as far as Europe's ruling elite is concerned. Their mentalities can't be explained from psychology, because the roots of their insanity are philosophical.
Nominalism lies at the root of much of the modern world’s dysfunction. It poses that the categories we use to understand reality exist only in our minds rather than reflecting anything objective in the world itself. You can't steelman this argument because it undermines the very… pic.twitter.com/QSwTy9IK0K— Jonathan Pageau (@PageauJonathan) December 2, 2025
Building on that fallacy stemming from the Neo Platonist and the Gnostic schools, we are looking at the Neo Paganism of the Renaissance; the cold, mechanical world view of the Scientific Revolution and the individualism of the Skeptics; the move to anti authoritarianism and rebellion of the Reformation; topped up with the full subjectivism and the acceptance of contradiction thought up by the Enlightenment wizards. And hey presto, Bob's your uncle.
This may sound abstract, but I can assure you that it isn't. By default we all have some world view or other, whether we are aware of it or not. Usually it is some incoherent mishmash of ideas based on spoon-fed feel-good factors. But ideas matter.

Scott Bessent said something remarkable on Fox News yesterday. If Russia attacked Europe, he said, the US would... sell us weapons - but no troops. NATO kaput, in other words. Should this not be headline news across Europe? Is it not a sign of EU brain death that it is not?

This is classic EU. Belgium says No to the EU’s too-clever-by-half Russian asset sequestration scheme because it fears legal risks. Wants other EU countries to share the risks. Other EU countries say No, on the grounds that it is legally too risky. So they have just vindicated…
