GLORIOUS GREECE: THE RED CASTLE OF KARYSTOS (EVIA)

In a post earlier this week we followed Greek podcaster Fotis Parakatselakis on his first pilgrimage to the Holy Mountain, also known as Athos, or the garden of the All Holy Mother of God ( link ). Today he is taking us on another kind of journey, to the Red Castle of Karystos on the island of Evia, a short distance from the mainland. The Red Castle has been towering over the town of Karystos for centuries, proud and silent, carrying stories of wars, military prowess and legends. Fotis climbs the historic castle, also known as Kokkinokastro in Greek and Castelo Rosso in Italian, and discovers the atmosphere, the history and the energy of one of the most imposing castles in Greece, of which there are quite of few.
