(CHRISTMAS 2025) A KALANTA A DAY: "ANARCHOS THEOS", SPECIAL RENDITION

🎵 In the countdown to New Year's Eve and Theophany we continue our daily posting of a traditional Greek Carols and Hymns. Today's Carol is traditional Byzantine Carol "Αναρχος Θεας" (Anarchos Theos - God has no beginning), but in a special rendition of Farya Faraji (link). He clarifies: "Modern renditions are adapted to the Western equal tempered tuning framework, but with this version, I wanted to stick to Byzantine Chant's older microtonal tuning in Tone 1, with a microtonal second interval slightly flatter than the Western minor. The instruments used are the toumberleki, kanonaki, lavta and violin". Those familiar with Faraji's work (more here) will understand what he's talking about.
