(CHRISTMAS 2025) A KALANTA A DAY: "THE CAROLS WE NEVER HEARD"

In the countdown to Christmas we are posting a traditional Greek Christmas Carol or a Greek Orthodox Christmas Chant a day. Today's video is "Τα κάλαντα που δεν ακούσαμε" (Ta kalanta pou den akousame - The Carols we never heard), a collection of kalanta selected by the Estoudiantina for their solid and non-negotiable character from the cultural heritage of kalanta from all over the Greek nation. Estoudiantina Neas Ionias (link) is joined by students from the University of Thessaly under the direction of Nikos Chiotoglou. The idea for the video was prompted in 2020 by the quarantines people were subjected to. In normal circumstances children would go house to house to sing carols in exchange for sweets and coins. Details.
