(CHRISTMAS 2025) A KALANTA A DAY: "THE GREAT CHRIST"

🎅 In the countdown to Christmas we are posting a traditional Greek Christmas Carol or a Greek Orthodox Christmas Hymn a day. Today, on Christmas Eve "Ο Μεεγαλος Χριστος" (O Megalos Christos - The Great Christ), a Carol from Eastern Rumelia in Northern Thrace by Εβρίτικη Ζυγιά (YT channel). English auto captions are available in the video, but are erratic.

The video was shot in the village of Avantas, Alexandroupoli. The location is the oldest two-story house in the village, built in the 1850s.

It was the residence of the first Greek priest, the Constantinople-born Papa Nikolas Vaxevanides, after the Asia Minor Catastrophe and the population exchange in 1924.

The building was maintained thanks to the care and at the expense of the family of Dimitrios (1923-1983) and Eleni Mavridis (1929 - 2015).
