(LIVE BLOG) OPERATION EPIC FURY/ROARING LION IN IRAN, DAY 15 (UPDATE)

US TARGETS KHARG ISLAND; TANKERS DECAMP TO RED SEA; ISRAEL TO INVADE SOUTHERN LEBANON

Following our previous reporting (link), the operation by US and Israeli forces on Iran on Saturday went into its fourteenth day. After the closing of the markets on Friday, President Trump announced that the US Central Command executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle East, and totally obliterated every military target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island, adding that Iran has no ability to defend anything that the US want to attack (link). The Kharg island is not just an oil facility. It has a Nestorian Church, it's got wild life, Kharg is home to a medieval Portuguese fort, religious tombs, and the ruins of one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world.

TankerTrackers has the statistics.

- It also has 55 crude oil storage tanks that can capacitate over 34 million barrels. They're most likely unscathed.
- There was a VLCC supertanker today that was wrapping up her 48h loading there of 2 million barrels. A couple of smaller tankers loaded or were just berthed on the east side of the island.
- Kharg Island has been loading tankers non-stop since the war broke out two weeks ago.
- If folks here start posting satellite data showing fires on the island to imply destruction of the oil facilities, then compare them against old images because there's gas flaring happening there daily. You can review them here.
- According to our tracking, the island accounted for 96% of the Iran's crude oil exports during 2025; or 1.538 Mbpd of the 1.605 Mbpd total.
- When Saddam Hussein raided the island numerous times forty years ago and destroyed a number of storage tanks, Kharg Island was still able to export over 1.5 million barrels per day. Here's a 40 year old sat pic we keep handy (link). 

Hudson Institute researcher Zineb Riboua has worked out what was Iran's rational behind bombing the neighbors indiscriminately. Iran had counted on Operation Epic Fury to do what earlier rounds of Israeli-Iranian confrontation had never quite managed: ignite the Muslim street (link). .


Yesterday we reported that Saudi Arabia was putting to good use an old east to west pipeline across the peninsula to the Red Sea port of Yanba. Some 30 supertankers are steaming to Yanbu for loading (link).

Once in the Red Sea they will encounter the Iranian proxies known as the Houthies, who have been able to harass shipping through their Strait, the Bab Al-Mandab, for the last few years with no one doing anything about it.


More than 100 attacks on merchant vessels were recorded, affecting ships from over 60 countries, targeting vessels linked to the US, Israel, and their allies.

But it is mostly shipping to Europe that is affected. At long last the EU organized the Aspides mission (link), meaning three military vessels are trying to protect the traffic through that strait, one of them being Greek. We will keep an eye on how that goes. 

Iran is reportedly now considering letting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz if the oil onboard is traded in Chinese yuan rather than the US dollar.

In Lebanon we have a major disaster playing out, as we can see night after night through the cameras on Lookner's live streams. Officially this is still about Hezbollah, but it's clear the objectives go well beyond that.

"Israel is planning massive ground invasion of Lebanon, aiming to seize the entire area south of the Litani River and dismantle Hezbollah's military infrastructure, Israeli and U.S. officials say".



The idea of a Christian nation carved out of the post colonial Sikes-Picot order does not get much traction in the media of course. But it is nevertheless on the minds of the people in the region.
