(LIVE BLOG) OPERATION EPIC FURY/RISING LION IN IRAN, DAY 4

Following our previous reporting (link), the operation by US and Israeli forces in Iran on Tuesday went into its fourth day. Iran has now formally closed the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC threatens to open fire on any ship attempting to transit. The US Embassy in Riyadh has been struck by drones. Amazon data centers in the UAE and Bahrain are inoperable. Iran is no longer targeting only military assets, but also economic and digital architecture in the Gulf region. NATO closely follow developments in Iran and the region, despite NATO's Sec.Gen. Mark Rutte commenting that all European member are supporting the effort. HQ in Brussels says it will "continue to adjust NATO’s very strong force posture" after the Akrotiri British base on Cyprus was targeted twice by drones from Lebanon (link).

NEW! Further wave of Iranian missiles reaches Israel amidst Purim celebrations.

Fox News reporter on the attack on the Qom Supreme Council election meeting.

I don't know about this. Earlier today a denial was posted that France had plans to send the nuclear powered aircraft carrier FS Charles de Gaulle to the East Med.

BREAKING - Building near the US consulate was hit by a drone, reportedly on fire. Fire is now said to be contained. No injuries reported.

March 2, 2026 Fox News: Netanyahu breaks silence for first time since strikes against Iran.

Israel just struck the Assembly of Experts building in Qom. (...) the building was hit while members were casting ballots to choose Khamenei’s successor.

Greece is deploying a Patriot missile battery on the island of Karpathos, between Crete and Rhodes. It significantly enhances regional air and missile defense in the Eastern Mediterranean (link). Military podcaster Angelos Chorianopoulos on the subject (link).

Thousands of travelers from Western countries are stranded in the Gulf and elsewhere. Greece has set up a plan to repatriate thousands of its nationals, but their return is ‌difficult as the airspace over the region ‌remains closed, PM Kyriakos ‌Mitsotakis said on Tuesday (link).

The IDF struck Hezbollah command centers, weapons depots, and satellite communication and intelligence components in Beirut. The IDF also launched a ground operation in southern Lebanon and near the border area.

Lebanese President Aoun told the Quintet (the US, France, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Qatar) that the decision to ban Hezbollah is final.  An important Lebanese faction released a statement, backing the decision, acknowledging no paramilitary or armed security units will be permitted apart of the Lebanese state authority, calling it a sovereign step toward full state control and a final ceasefire with Israel.

In the meantime the Anglo-American 'special relationship' is under strain as UK PM Starmer said he will not commit military personnel to join Trump's unlawful action, a reference to the rules based order that is usually cover for ulterior political motives.

That is also why Starmer tolerates Iranian drone assaults on his territory in Cyprus. Starmer is pondering sending HMS Duncan, which may arrive in the East Med in about a week from dispatch (link).

If the Anglo-American special relationship dies, which has not happened yet, the Five-Eyes intelligence network has also died on PM Starmer's watch.

The would lead to the collapse of Lloyd's maritime insurance as MI6's intelligence sharing with the US would dry up. Starmer was blindsided by the start of the operation on Iran. That alone means that the transatlantic intelligence sharing is in deep trouble already.

A similar story is unfolding with Canada, which is ruled by Mr Globalist himself, Marc Carney. @JasonJames BNN has that story: "Once again, Canada was left in the dark on US military operations inside Iran. Historically Canada's armed forces have been a key strategic ally for the United States—as was Britain.
So what changed? (link).

Macron was also out of the loop, but he has announced plans to send anti missile and anti drone systems to Cyprus, as well as a frigate. A Cypriot government source confirmed the report.

France is also sending Air Force A400M Cargo planes to a US-French Base in the UAE (link), while creating ambiguity by saying it will work with China on de-esclatating the Iran war (link).

Greece on Monday dispatched four F-16 fighter jets and two frigates, the Kimon and the Psaras to Cyprus (link). The Kimon is equipped with an anti drone Centauros jamming system. Centauros has ‌been successfully deployed against Houthi rebels and can detect and ‌incapacitate low-flying drones (link).

Fox News Journalist Katie Pavlich talked with US House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast, who was in the Gang of 8 briefing. He told her this is a 'search and destroy' mission, as opposed to a 'regime change' operation, Nor is it a 'forever war'. Read Pavlich' here.

At this point I need to point out that the claim that "Trump has no plan" is coming out the regime change' and 'nation building' crowd. Indeed, the plan is that there is no plan (link).

You can open a door, but you can't force a people to go through it and build a Western style democracy, as was taught at great cost by the Iraq experience.

In Greece, a Georgian national of Azerbaijani origin has been arrested for photographing warships at the US base on Souda Bay, Crete (link).

The energy situation is not part of the scope of this post as it would increase the content by a hundred percent. But here is a prime example of what Europe could do towards its own energy needs. They are sitting on top of huge gas deposits, but are too beholden to the climate lobby to save themselves.

We have short memories these days. The changing situation in Lebanon, which was unthinkable even recently, is a reminder that Iran destroyed the entire Levant with its proxy wars.

And, @Cleptok is setting the record straight on Greco Persian history:

TO ALL CONCERNED: the last Greco-persian war was NOT in 490/480 BC or Alexander's conquests. It was the apocalyptic Byzantine- Sassanid struggle of 602-628 AD. Exhausted both empires and opened the door for Islam. (and yeah, we also won it, 3 out of 3)
