OPERATION EPIC FURY/ROARING LION IN IRAN, DAY 13 (UPDATE)

FAKE NEWS KEEPS DRIVING THE MEDIA NARRATIVE

Following our previous reporting (link), the operation by US and Israeli forces on Iran on Thursday went into its twelfth day and I am starting to feel a broken record, battling two persistent lies that are driving the media. First the fake news that 'the Strait of Hormuz is closed'. But at least it has the mitigating factor that it takes some specialized knowledge to understand that 'closing the Strait' is redundant since, ship and freight insurers, primarily in the City of London refused to cover insurance during the first week of the war. Trump solved the problem by ordering the US Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to provide insurance and guarantees for the financial security of all maritime trade in the Gulf at low cost. We explained it in this post. London yesterday let it be known they are not refusing cover at this point.

But what does not have this mitigating factor is the simple and straight up lie that 'Iran mined the Strait of Hormuz' (link). We reported on this yesterday. Today the media and the social media are persisting in spreading this lie.

You can't blame the parrots among us, but some should really know better. Check our reporting yesterday (link) for the anatomy of how that happened after CNN, CBS, Bloomberg, the New York Times and others started this conscious effort to sabotage the war effort.

When all this started during the course of March 10, someone suggested the deep state as the source of the rumor. Today this is even more likely, as the Institute for the Study of War, the deep state think tank, reported verbatim the message proliferated by the media:

"Iran has deployed fewer than 10 naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz" - yeah, zero is less than ten! (link).

The new leader of Iran just delivered his first public statement. He is more hardline than his father and is like him, obsessed with the Shia Islamic eschatology of the Twelfth Imam (link). Key points of his statement:

- All US bases should immediately be closed in the region, those that do not, will be attacked.
- Iran wants war reparations or Iran will confiscate assets or destroy enemy property.
- Countries in the region must clarify their position on the enemies of Iran.
- Iran is considering other lines of attack in areas where the enemy has little experience and is highly vulnerable, to be activated if the state of war continues and if deemed appropriate.

Yesterday we reported that Saudi Arabia is reinstating an east to west pipeline across the peninsula to the Red Sea port of Yanba that was hardly ever used anymore. Now some 30 supertankers are steaming to Yanbu for loading. Normal traffic is 2 per month (link).

Cyprus  has become the best defended island in Europe. But the concentration of so much armory has started to draw attention. Politicians fear it will negatively impact tourist season.

Turkey posthaste adjusted the balance of power in its favor by stationing six F-16s in the Turkish occupied northern part of the island. Not being outdone, Russia is now complaining about the presence of NATO forces (link).

A US Congressman is moving to get the Turkish action condemned as a violation of the terms of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) that govern the export and end use of US origin defense equipment (link) (link).

The attacks and arming of Cyprus has opened decades old questions, like its neutrality and should the island nation join NATO, should it be militarized and questions about the status of Britain’s bases on the island. It is clear the UK cannot maintain them at the level required by the current threat environment (link).

Nevertheless, Cyprus plans to acquire four Centaur anti-drone systems from Greece to strengthen its air defense, adding a new layer of protection against unmanned aerial threats amid rising tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean (link). Read here about the illustrious Centaur in action:

Greek military industry in growing apace, moving to advance domestically developed military drone systems, awarding initial research and development contracts for three unmanned combat aerial vehicles and two related defense technologies, the Ministry of National Defense and the Hellenic Center for Defense Innovation said Wednesday (link). For technical details, watch the podcasts of military blogger Angelos Chorianopoulos (link).

The Israelis have become the greatest champions of Greek national interests, seeing how Greece an Cyprus and its enmity with Turkey can be exploited to its advantage. "A leading American Jewish organization has called for the US to permanently lift its arms embargo on Cyprus since it has become an increasingly important strategic partner for the United States and its allies..." (link).

"In a jaw-dropping twist, China's Foreign Ministry has publicly condemned Iran's missile and drone barrages on Gulf nations, calling them "unacceptable attacks on civilians and non-military targets" and demanding an "immediate ceasefire" (link).

And that's not all! The UN Security Council passed a resolution calling for Iran to immediately halt its attacks on Gulf states, saying they breach international law and pose a "serious threat to international peace and security". China and Russia did not veto.
