"CLUSTERS OF MEANING" AND "THE SYMBOLISM OF HISTORY"

"Reactionary Feminist" Mary Harrington has joined Eric Metaxas's podcast series Socrates in the City for a talk with Jonathan Pageau, icon carver and podcaster of the Symbolic World. Topics of conversation cover medieval cosmology, Dante, C.S. Lewis and internet memes (Mary calls them "clusters of meaning"). They discuss how we forgot how to look at the universe from a man centered perspective. The scientific age and its mechanistic world view, that teaches only the visible exists, has stripped reality of all meaning, because it can't be 'measured'. Pageau's quest is, to bring back meaning into our lives.

Topics include Cicero, rhetoric and power, the fall of the Roman Republic, and why the stories of ancient statesmen still help us understand today’s political landscape.
