(LIVE BLOG) BREAKING NEWS - OPERATION RISING LION

Operation Rising Lion is on. The Israeli code name of present attack is Operation Lion's Roar. The US uses code name Epic Fury. Steve Lookner is reporting missile alerts from various locations in Israel, lastly in Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem. The air raid shelters have opened. Many residents of Tehran are fleeing the city. Primary targets are Iran's leadership and the operation is expected to last several days. Damage has been reported to the Supreme Leader's compound. His whereabouts are unknown. Satellite imagery shows utter destruction. Reuters is reporting that the Defense Minister and an IRGC commander have been killed in Israel's "preventative strike". Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, which has now been confirmed.

The IDF has released a statement saying that acting on intelligence, they carried out an attack this morning on a gathering of Iranian security leaders. The attack during daylight provided an element of surprise.

Iranian state media says dozens of schoolgirls have been killed when a missile hit a primary girls' school in Minah. 

Saudi Arabia states they will join the US in the operation after the Iran attacked a US base in Saudi Arabia. Qatar has joined Saudi Arabia in condemning Iran's strikes across the region, promising it is prepared to respond aggressively.

The Abu Dhabi city center has reportedly been struck by an Iranian missile. 

Five explosions rattled Dubai, which has no US bases. Smoke is seen rising near Jebel Ali port, one of the busiest shipping hubs. Some 7000 vessels pass through annually.

Dubai also closed the international airport and Al Maktoum International. Over 280 flights have been cancelled, 250 have been delayed. This is not a regional disruption, it's a critical node in global aviation. 

In addition to the Fifth Fleet HQ in Bahrain being hit, Italy has confirmed a Kuwaiti military base used by its troops was damaged by Iranian missiles.
