SAINT NEKTARIOS (1846-1920): VENERATED ON NOVEMBER 9
Saint Nektarios of Aegina, also known as Metropolitan of Pentapolis and Wonderworker of Aegina, is honored today, November 9, marking the anniversary of his repose on November 8, 1920 with the feast observed the following day to avoid conflict with the feast of the Synaxis of Archangel Michael and all bodiless powers. Aghios Nektarios is the patron saint for those suffering from illnesses such as cancer, heart trouble, arthritis, and epilepsy. Born Anastasios Kephalas on October 1, 1846, in Selymbria, Asia Minor, he was the son of a poor but pious Christian family. He moved to Constantinople at age 14 to work and pursue education, later teaching on the island of Chios before becoming a monk at the Monastery of Nea Moni at age 30. He was ordained a deacon in 1879, taking the name Nektarios, and later graduated from the University of Athens in 1885. Read his biography here (IMDb).

During the pandemic in 2021 Aghios Nektarios became the subject of a movie written and directed by Yelena Popovic, "Man of God" which made the saint better known outside Greece to a wider public. Here's the official trailer.

The "Man of God" crew recounts a miracle that occurred during the filming of the movie. This short played as a bonus feature after the presentation of the film in theaters, and aired on television in Serbia on September 19, the day this miracle occurred and the commemoration of the miracle of Archangel Michael at Colossae.
