AMBASSADOR GUILFOYLE'S PRIORITIES IN US-GRECO COOPERATION

It looks like the new US Ambassador to Greece, Trump acolyte Kimberley Guilfoyle, is going to need her own blog. But for now we're going to try to keep up with her here. After her arrival in Athens last week and the proper diplomatic ceremonies, she attended the P-TEC conference on American LNG for Europe and related issues such as the '3+1 platform' with Israel and Cyprus, the 'vertical corridor' to middle and Eastern Europe, all essentially part of the IMEC corridor, running from India to Europe via the Middle East and Greek ports (link).

Today Guilfoyle was part of the Greece Talks Forum sponsored by Travel.gr with the theme, "The Intelligence Age: Travel, Culture & Connection" which was also attended by PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis (link).

In the interview at the forum Guilfoyle outlined the priorities she has set out for the cooperation of Greece with the Trump 2.0 administration: energy, shipping, trade and defense.

A few clarifications may be in order.

In the previous decade Greece was hit by a sovereign debt crisis. The country was essentially run by a German 'troika' of bankers and civil servants for a number of years (video).

In 2016, in a spree of privatizations of national assets the Port of Piraeus was sold off to a Chinese state-owned company, Cosco Shipping, making it part of the CCP's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) (link).

The BRI is now a direct competitor of the IMEC corridor with India via the Middle East and Greece. Guilfoyle, asked about the matter, thinks some solution will be found.

Update Nov. 19, 2025
It looks like the solution for bypassing Cosco port Piraeus has been found in the ONEX shipyard in Elefsina. It also has port facilities and can double as a port.

Wow, more here!
US and Greece launch infrastructure investments (link):

'By order of the Prime Minister, discussions have already begun with the US side for investments in shipyards, ports and critical infrastructure, with the aim of creating new jobs and restoring the shipbuilding industry as a strong productive force in the country.”

"The roots of this cooperation are deep. After World War II, the legendary Liberty ships were granted at preferential prices to Greek shipowners, contributing to the revival of Greek shipping.

"The salvaged “Hellas Liberty” in the port of Piraeus is a symbol of that era and a reminder of the role that the United States played in shaping one of the world’s greatest maritime powers."

What a difference a grey career diplomat makes when he is replaced by an inspired soul. La Guilfoyle is already making friends in Athens 💙This is gonna be great!
