GREEK SHIP BUILDING INCLUDED IN US 'MARITIME ACTION PLAN' (UPDATE)
For yet another day we are happy to bring you more good news for Greece. After the LNG deal and the Vertical Corridor with middle and eastern Europe, and the gas drilling contracts with Chevron, there's more great news involving the shipyard in Elefsina. The White House has released a long-term plan to revive the US shipbuilding industry with the so-called 'Maritime Action Plan'. Part of the plan is the $125 million funding by US development bank DFC to ONEX Shipyards in Elefsina, a port that is going to be significantly upgraded in order to by-pass the China owned port of Piraeus. Greece is the European entry point of the IMEC, the trade corridor with India via the Middle East in competition with China's Belt and Road Initiative.

Kathimerini is reporting that a broader discussion is underway between American and Greek officials and shipowners about the possibility of maintenance and ship building in US yards.
"At the same time, the transfer of know-how by Greek entrepreneurs for the rehabilitation of obsolete shipbuilding units in the US, such as in Louisiana, is being discussed" (link).

The State Dept. meanwhile, in accordance with Secretary of State, Marco Rubio's speech in Munich this weekend (link), reiterated his call for Europe to save itself.
The United States and Europe belong to a civilization that stretches over continents, crossed over oceans, and persisted for thousands of years: from Athens to Rome to America.Western Civilization must embrace its noble legacy if it is to reverse its decline. pic.twitter.com/DdGQ5BYSA8— Department of State (@StateDept) February 18, 2026
Directus.gr (link) gave its own interpretation to this message, that was echoed by Andreas Mountzouroulias, with which we partly agree. Greece is an oasis of normalcy on a continent in chaos and moral decline.
"Shocking message from the American Foreign Ministry: "Greece is the birthplace of Western civilization - Athens the "moral arsenal" of the West".

There are a number of reasons why this is true. But the sad reality why Western Europe diverged from its ancient civilizational roots. is too old and too deep a complex to deal with here in a few words on a blog post.
Given some time I will continue writing my e-book with a lengthy discourse on the history of this situation and how it became inevitable at this point.
Update: An agreement that will reportedly be signed on February 25, at the US Department of Transportation, between ONEX Shipyards and Technologies (which controls the shipyards of Elefsina and Syros), and South Korean Hanwha Power Systems, is part of the US strategic plan to rebuild and strengthen its domestic shipbuilding and maritime industry (link).
