INDIA AND ISRAEL IN HISTORIC STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

We are going through a global revolution in more ways than one. Old alliances are crumbling, as new ones appear on the horizon. The last days we have been looking at a collapsing European Union (link), which should be no surprise to anyone with any knowledge of the continent. In the Middle East, Israel has ambitions of becoming a  regional power. It defeated Iran proxies, Hezbollah and Hamas and Syria's leader has been collectively regime-changed (link). Syria is presently in the process of becoming a weak, failed state and an easy target for the players in the region (link). Iran is the final obstacle to hegemony and then Turkey is on the menu. Yesterday's visit of India's President Modi to Israel is evidence of the global paradigm shift, unprecedented in human history.

In the last few months we saw Israel's deepening alliance with Turkey's rivals, Greece and Cyprus brokered by the United States in the so called the 3+1 Framework (link). The alliance's military cooperation (link) involves artillery, the Achilles Shield Air Defense system (link), drills, integration and R&D.

Now that the triangle with Greece and Cyprus is put into action, Israel is expanding its strategic position with three more countries, together forming an hexagon, a star of David. It involves India, the UAE and Somaliland at the horn of Africa.

Yesterday's visit of India's President Modi is evidence of this emerging hexagonic alliance.

We have not yet seen any proper analyses of the agreements realized during the visit, but the preview from India Today offers some idea of the scale of the cooperation.

The thing to watch here is, that these are not just deals in a vacuum. They are long term moves, integrating the technical features of the weapon systems and their arsenals. These are strategic shifts.

For India, which like Cyprus has a history as a non-aligned, neutral state, this shift is major. It signals an end to India's cooperation with Russia's sanctions busting efforts and ties the subcontinent long term to the hexagon.

India's pivot also means the end to dreams of BRICS taking over America's reign of the dollar as the world's reserve currency.

The project that binds all these strategic alliances together is the IMEC, a trade corridor from India to Europe via the Middle East and Greece, in competition with China's One Belt One Road Initiative, which is being built further north via Iran and Turkey.
