EU CENTRALIZES POWER AS GREECE DIVERSIFIES ALLEGIANCE
Alexander Merkouris at The Duran has an excellent analysis of the current state of the European Union. The mask has definitely come off. The last weeks since the World Economic Forum in Davos and the Greenland issue, President Donald Trump has made clear he is no longer playing by the old rule book. The moral bullying with soft power projects, like 'democracy' and 'human rights' has gone out of fashion. It did not take long for the European leaders to join the game. They still fancy the EU a super power. Unlike Trump however, they don't understand the nature of power and how it is produced. So prepare for more bullying, rigging elections and lawfare in national Governments that have the gall to go against the imperial grain.

There is one country however in the southeast of the continent that has been quietly setting out its own foreign policy agenda. Greece is proving it is still the rightful heir of Byzantine high diplomacy!

Washington may drift from Europe, but not from Greece
Greece is a serious EU actor but doesn't outsource its relationship with Washington to Brussels. Athens has unusual leverage as a key logistics hub, a voice in Eastern Mediterranean diplomacy, and a bridge for US engagement with partners across the region
"As American strategic documents signal a recalibration of US commitments in Europe, it’s easy for European capitals to lament Washington’s shifting focus. But lamentation is a luxury smaller states cannot afford – something Greece understands better than most.
"The fact that US president Donald Trump is preparing to visit Athens (link) while Washington’s attention drifts elsewhere is not accidental. Rather than waiting for a distant European consensus to carry it, Greece has been systematically making itself an indispensable US ally in ways that matter materially and geopolitically for both sides".

The article is referring to energy synergy with the delivery of American LNG to middle and Eastern Europe via Greece (link) and the geostrategic cooperation between the US, Greece, Cyprus and Israel (link) with the IMEC corridor from India as the main prize (link).
Just today senior US officials discussed a crucial meeting on February 24 to promote the 'Vertical Gas Corridor' in order to "strengthen the momentum and identifying the next steps toward the effective utilization".
"The position the EU ultimately takes is seen as particularly important by the US with the European Commission invited to participate in the meeting at a senior level"(link).
Apparently the EU is tolerating Greece's independence for now, but if that is no longer the case, the empire has considerable leverage.
For example with an outrageous European policy proposal that was just approved by the European Parliament that would expel asylum seekers to EU entry countries. This could cause considerable headache in Athens.
