IN PURSUIT OF THE EUROPEAN DREAM: DIGITAL SOVEREIGNTY (UPDATES)

After decades of championing the virtues of globalism, outsourcing their production to China, their security to America and their energy to Russia, alarm bells are starting to go off in European capitals, meaning Berlin, Paris and London. It's about time, you might think. But the awareness that this is somehow not sustainable, is limited to the tech sector. It was brought about by the American domination of the field and the Trump administration's objections to being censored by the EU Digital Services Act. Consumer protection, they call it. Violation of the freedom of speech, say the Americans. But that is not the issue here. For more on censoring, check our posts on Mike Benz (link). After net-zeroing and de-industrializing Germany and many other manufacturing hubs around the continent, realization is dawning that Europe is not ideally positioned for post-globalism.

July 30, 2025 EU Made Simple: How Europe Can Build Its Own Tech Giants.

From the video you can see where Europe can be great, in regulation and in pass word management. But wait!

At the annual World Economic Forum circus at Davos, Europe presented its own version of X, called W.

First off, it seems that a neo communist command economy is taking shape in Europe. Who owns this thing? Secondly, who are these people kidding? And that's just for starters.

Because who knew that secretly for years, Europe has been copying US tech, sporting no less than five cloud services no one has ever heard of (link).

But why stop there?! "The Digital Euro will be rolled out in about a year which can act as a replacement for Visa/Mastercard & avoid going thru US" (link).. Take that, USA!

Europe (the EU that is) is also tackling its dependency on production in China. But let's not copy Trump there and repatriate the manufacturing base! God forbid! They just replaced China with India, doubling down on globalism. Congrats!

The "agreement on mobility," with India is  facilitating "the movement of students, researchers, seasonal and highly skilled workers," and launches the "first EU Legal Gateway Office in India" to support Indian talent moving to Europe."

The saddest thing about all this is, Europeans seriously believe this is somehow meaningful economics. Globalism has dumbed them down too. They already missed the boat on AI. That particular race for the tech standard of the future is already gone, as Europe is pursuing abstractions and slogans.

Personally I've given up on Brussels long ago. The future is elsewhere, to the East and to the West of the old continent, where the great powers of yesteryear are struggling to come to terms with their loss of empire.
