PRESSURE ON ATHENS FOR EU WAR SLUSH FUND

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul is due in Athens tomorrow, Monday Oct. 13 in order to pressure the Greek Government into abandoning its veto against the participation of non EU member state, Turkey in the EU's €150 billion "Security Action for Europe" (SAFE) slush fund for war against Russia (link). Nov. 30 is the deadline for SAFE loan applications. In the meantime Turkey has a standing casus belli against Greece, in case the latter decides to exercise its territorial rights as mandated by the EU, the so called EEZ (link).

Wadephul is coming to Athens to convince the Greeks that Turkey's participation in SAFE is to its benefit, with assurances that the Eurofighter Typhoon (link) will not be used against Greece, and with the 'guarantee' that the territorial integrity of the Aegean islands will not be disputed.

During one of its many EU summits Greek PM Mitsotakis reiterated Greece's stance that Turkey's participation in SAFE is contingent on Ankara ditching its casus belli over Greece’s extension of territorial waters in the Aegean and its 'gray zones' theory, which challenges Greek sovereignty over a number of islands.

Turkey is NATO’s second-largest military power and has a thriving drone industry. Certain Eastern European countries are watching Turkey’s military capabilities and war potential with eagerness. Their reckless russophobia has become a moral hazard for NATO and the US which they try to draw into a war with Russia on their behalf.

Greece is also hesitant to turn over its aging Mirage 2000-5 fighters to the bloc for potential transfer to Ukraine. Because that is what all of this is about, Project Ukraine and its money laundromat. Now Greece is put under pressure to put its sovereignty on the line for the perceived sovereignty of Ukraine!

The question if anyone should want to participate in the SAFE slush fund is not in debate. History has learnt security guarantees are not worth the paper they're written on. Precisely this situation is illustrative of the fact that short term political expediency drives human as well as geopolitical action.

And with charlatans like the ones currently in power, particularly in the EU troika that is driving all the madness and warmongering -- Germany, France and the UK -- their guarantees are perhaps valid until the moment their plane leaves the tarmac.

One can only hope that Wadephul is sent in his way with a flee in his ear.
