LEGAL STEPS TO PROTECT SAINT KATHERINE'S MONASTERY IN SINAI

The Greek government is taking legal steps to safeguard the historic Saint Catherine’s Monastery in Sinai, amid concerns over a recent Egyptian court ruling that appeared to challenge its ownership status (link). Responding to the development, the Education Ministry is introducing legislation to establish a public legal entity named the "Greek Orthodox Holy Basilica Autonomous Monastery of Saint Catherine of the Holy and Theobadist Mount Sinai". (...) The new entity will represent the monastery in Greece, manage its assets and promote the Greek Orthodox tradition. It will also support efforts to preserve, document and showcase the monastery’s relics and manuscripts. The draft law is currently under public consultation until July 22 and will be submitted to Parliament. (Source)
