THE EUROPEAN EMPIRE AND ITS PUSH TO THE EAST

It is becoming increasingly clear how much nonsense Western intellectuals have been pushing in the last thirty years or so. Take the standard postmodern crap that 'nation states are the cause of war'. It was part of a campaign against Nationalism, not meant as a general type, but of the particular breed that secular philosophers of the post Enlightenment have been cultivating in the 1800s. We were supposed to conclude from that 'factoid' that the sovereign state is a danger to world peace, and that instead we should opt for the multicultural empire, that knows no racism, inequities or any of the other injustices in which the nation state specializes. But guess what? The multicultural empire has risen from the ashes of World War 1 and proves more belligerent than any sovereign nation(al) state in the last eighty years.

The Nationalism these postmodern intellectuals were agitating against, should not be confused with patriotism, which comes from a different place altogether. No, the Nationalism they mean is the kind that sees the state as a living, breathing entity, a projection of God that must be worshiped with blood sacrifices.

In the terms of Hegel the state is the 'ethical whole', the 'actualization of freedom', and 'the self-consciousness of the Absolute\. As a mere human sacrifice to this animistic state, man has the duty to submit to its needs, and worship it as a terrestrial divinity. Consider the following quote as illustrative of the idea:

''Otto Braun, age 19, a volunteer who died in World War I, wrote in a letter to his parents: "My inmost yearning, my purest, though most secret flame, my deepest faith and my highest hope - they are still the same as ever, and they all bear one name: the State.

One day to build the State like a temple, rising up pure and strong, resting in its own weight, severe and sublime, but also serene like the gods and with bright halls glistening in the dancing brilliance of the sun - this, at bottom, is the end and goal of my aspirations.''

In Hegel we see how human free will, the essence of morality in man, has shifted to the collective state. The process of shifting personal morality to the secular state, has continued to this day.

In the video the guys of The Duran are discussing what has become of the EU, a postmodern empire if there ever was one. Its power games in the Black Sea against Russia are reminiscent of an era gone by, when rivalries between empires of various kinds, were the issue of the day.

The EU expansionism into the Black Sea calls to mind the role of European imperial rivalry in driving colonial expansion. Competing powers of Britain, France, and Germany led to the annexation and exploitation of colonies all over the globe.

As these countries are dealing with the aftermath of their own histories as colonial powers on their own soil, they are already engaged in repeating a similar process eastwards.
