THE POST WORLD WAR 2 ORDER IS PASSING INTO HISTORY (1)

For a few days now I have been on the fence about an interview that Winston Marshall had with Roman Catholic theologian, R.R. Reno. He is the author of the book, "The Return of the Strong Gods: Nationalism, Populism, and the Future of the West," published in 2019. Nicholas on Orthodox Reflections beat me to it, posting an article on Reno's political theory and applying it to Orthodoxy. I will try to condense Reno's claims as briefly as I can. This Pentecost there is also other news, not altogether uplifting to hear, but then we can't duck reality -- or at least the consequences of ducking reality. More in a separate post later today.

Reno's theory briefly goes like this. I am adding my own conclusions to it.

After World War 2 what was then the internationalist coalition (link) came together drawing the wrong lessons from the war and vowed never to repeat it again in history. Hitler was held up as the face of 'true evil', also to cover up equal or even greater evil, committed by Hitler's opponents. 

The liberal 'Austrian' philosopher Karl Popper became one of the leading thinkers of this coalition, writing a book titled, "The Open Society and Its Enemies".

As secular progressivist thinking and ethics progressed, and in the face of increased resistance, the movement has become more unhinged and fanatical in our day, seeing Hitler and fighting 'true evil' on every street corner, from Latin Mass Catholics to protests against mass migration. 

It is not an accident that George Soros, who as a Jew, worked for the Nazis, was heavily influenced by Karl Popper, naming his flagship institution for social revolutionary influence and propaganda, The Open Society Foundation.
