TARIFFS: TRUMP SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY ON TUCKER CARLSON
We're not done yet with the paradigm shattering economic remaking of the world economy by President Trump and the word he loves so much, tariffs. As the media are focusing on trade wars, risks and prohibitive price hikes as they are suddenly being caught by the inexplicable fears of inflation, some less obvious consequences are being pointed out by people more knowledgeable on this issue. Trump's Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessant hit the Tucker Carlson interview circuit to explain the niceties of the policy. Others are pointing to the bond market and what the drop in yields means for the gargantuan debt that has been piled up during the years of Pikettian (Post)modern Monetary Theory, which states that deficits don't matter since the their aim is to blow up the system anyway.

What this means is when the 10-year yield falls, it’s because people are buying U.S. government debt, not selling it. A deal between the US and Argentina explains where President Trump is going. Apart of encouraging foreign corporations to set up shop in the US creating well paid jobs for Americans, the ultimate goal is zero tariffs between countries.

Trump’s tariffs aren’t starting a trade war—they’re ending one. For decades, other countries ripped off American workers with unfair tariffs and barriers. Now, we’re finally fighting back.America First! pic.twitter.com/Wi6wJ2QMXC— Brian Babin (@RepBrianBabin) April 2, 2025

A few hightlights from Bessent's interview with Tucker Carlson:
BESSENT: “A lot of our trading partners, including some of our allies, have not been good partners. If tariffs are so bad, why do they have them? … Or if the American consumer is going to pay all the tariffs, then why do they care about tariffs?” pic.twitter.com/T3Aew8ObFK
