(LIVE STREAM) BREAKING NEWS: ISRAEL STRIKES HAMAS IN QATAR

Israel has confirmed it has attacked the Hamas political bureau, including the top negotiator, in a residential area of Doha Qatar as they were meeting to discuss the latest US ceasefire proposal mediated by Qatar. The US has advised its diplomatic personnel to shelter in place. The code name is "Summit of Fire". Hamas told Reuters, two of the four to eight members of the political bureau survived the attack. The UAE, Jordan, Qatar, the UN SG and Saudi Arabia strongly condemn the attack and the violation of Qatar's sovereignty. N12 reports the US was briefed mere moments prior to the strike. Palestinian Quds News reports that the Hamas top negotiator and his son have been killed. Report: Israel has issued a statement saying the strike is in retaliation of yesterday's terrorist attacks on a bus stop in Jerusalem for which Hamas' armed wing has claimed responsibility. Six civilians were killed in the attack, while six others were seriously wounded.

An attack on a mediator is a violation of very, very long standing diplomatic protocol going back to antiquity. Assaulting a mediator in the long term hurts all the parties involved, including the violator. 

The news will not be welcomed in Washington. Trump's personal envoy, Steve Witkoff has a personal relationship with the Emir of Qatar which made these mediation efforts possible.

Update: The White House Press Secretary (link) just said the President did not approve of the location (its ally, Qatar). The Israelis informed the Pentagon prior to the strike; President Trump informed the Qataris. Qatar said it was informed only as the strike was already in progress. After the strike the President, Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff spoke with PM Netanyahu.

The question after this event will be, how can any further negotiations take place? And perhaps making them impossible was exactly the objective. 

Update: In a reaction Hamas has reportedly said that the negotiations will continue. President Trump has also said he sees the "incident" as an opportunity for peace. 

Qatar Interior Ministry is reporting in a press release that one security guard was killed and several others have been wounded. 

Some background: Before Qatar reformed itself as a neutral mediator it was part of four countries run by the Muslim Brotherhood: Sudan, Qatar, Gaza and Turkey. Their Obama assisted coup called 'Arab Spring' in Egypt did not last very long before the people of Egypt threw them out.
