ORTHODOXY CAN'T SAVE THE WEST, BUT IT MAY SAVE YOU

Since my last invective (link) warning for the dangers of the Orthobros, I received more alarming messages, that made me think about the future of Orthodoxy in the West. Earlier this week I said that if these people get to define Orthodoxy, it "would create an Orthodox version of Western religious tradition; precisely that what they are running from in the first place". The irony is lost on them, of course. After mulling this over in my mind, it occurred to me that this is probably unavoidable. Just as there is Orthodoxy with a Slavic color, we will get a particular Western variety, replete with the aesthetics we presently see in Evangelical services, more reminiscent of Hollywood than Heaven, for example. Amongst other adaptations.

Churches may be filled with faithful who doubt the advice of their catechists, spiritual fathers and confessors. They are their own theologians. You can't learn a cradle Protestant obedience and humility. They just don't have it in them.

We will continue to have as many denominations as there are faithful. Prepare for any number of schisms springing up, each with its own version of Western 'Orthodoxy'. The great questions is, will it still be Orthodoxy, or something else entirely?

Now does this actually matter? Orthodoxy not being a centralized religion like Papal Roman Catholicism, it probably does not make any difference for Orthodoxy. Already there are national variations and theological schisms all over the place. Which is also regrettable.

But will it save the West? No, it won't. The West is irredeemable as it is. The history and the religious and cultural events and influences that brought the West into the mess it is in now, can't be undone. You can't change that. Nor was that ever my intention.

But here's the good news. Already there are signs that Orthodoxy has a positive influence on the theological and philosophical errors that have have been brought into Western religion and anthropology over the last millennium since it broke with the East.

I should have taken notes of the changes, but I didn't. From the top of my head, I noticed Charlie Kirk referencing an unbroken Trinity (explanation in Session 3), which is remarkable in itself. There was another instance that I don't recall. But this goes to show that despite the phronema being completely off, improvement is still possible, albeit haphazard.

Another category that is not my field or something I want to get into, is salvation which is really all that matters. This is the wheelhouse of those in authority, like Father Peter or Father Josiah. I am not even going to touch on the issue. But I don't think, things are hopeless in that regard either way.

The e-book I am working on, did not aim at 'saving souls' or any other form of evangelism in the first place. But some apologetics for Orthodoxy may have crept into the text. I will check it for such instances, as at this point I am no longer seeking to teach Westerners anything.
