THE CAUSASUS: RESISTING THE LURE OF FALSE ENLIGHTENMENT

The Greek League of The Duran had a short, but interesting talk with two Georgian intellectuals, Lasha Kasradze and Professor Levan Gigineishvili. What sticks out immediately is the romantic idea lingering in the East about Europe and The Enlightenment. The two guests need no disabusing in that respect; they are aware what Postmodern Europe has become. But neither of those involved seems to be aware that the present mess is not brought about by something entirely different, but is the final iteration of a long string of philosophical mistakes dating back to the Great Schism of 1054. And that date is not just a coincidence. It is when the West cut itself loose from the Orthodox supervision that had prevented it from going down that route centuries earlier.

Aug. 17, 2025 The Duran: Pushing Georgia into a postmodernist European Union w/Lasha Kasradze & Professor Levan Gigineishvili.

Professor Levan Gigineishvili mentions the attraction of the Enlightenment in Georgia as described by Professor Harold Bloom. Here's the nightmare bio of this author on his Wikipedia (link). There is a lot of mission work ahead if that part of the Caucasus wants to avoid falling into the trap laid by the Pomo leaders of the EU.

Lasha Kasradze at one point in the discussion touches on the issue of hierarchy. It is but one of the many instances where the West started its lapse early on in the scholastic period. The attack on hierarchy by Nominalism has resulted in anti-realism, naturalism and a flat world view in which nothing has intrinsic value or meaning. And that's in the Middle Ages, well before anyone had even conceived of Pomo.

Alexander Mercouris expresses the view that the EU will fail in its effort to corrupt Georgia (and by extension, Armenia) as their efforts will not fall on fertile ground (although the taste of Neo Platonism is unmistakable). But I share Mercouris' thoughts where the Greek enculturated world is concerned, of which Georgia and Armenia are a part, more or less.

Yet, Russia is proof how much damage can be done nevertheless. Culturally speaking, Imperial Russia was not part of the Western world, yet a relatively small group of Westernized romantics was able to foment the Bolshevik Revolution. It is estimated that no more than twenty percent of a population is capable of destabilizing a country.

Geopolitics is interesting, but we have to remind ourselves that politics is very much downstream from culture, which in its turn is downstream from philosophy and religion. It is starts with how and what we think and what we value!
