GEOPOLITICS: IDEOLOGY AND ECONOMIC INTERESTS

Behind the scenes a lot of geopolitics is going on. In a post titled "Armenians Duped by Pan Turkic, Anti Russia Game" dated Sep. 30 (link) we saw that Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan are working on a Pan Turkic union, with the blessing of Western powers because it would control the Russian sphere of influence on the Eurasian landmass. The union would include the southern Caucasus. The Islamic, anti Christian union sprawling across the continent, from the Eastern Mediterranean via Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgystan and the huge territory of Kazakhstan to the steppes of Mongolia. But there are also geopolitical powers pulling in the opposite direction. Deep State Target George Papadopoulos explains. We copy the entire text of his tweeX here for easy reading:

"(...) Turkey has (...) interests to escalate [the war in Gaza] because they fear they are losing the Mediterranean and the hearts and minds of the Arab and Muslim Street as the underlying foundation of their neo Ottomanist aspirations.

It's not just about the transport corridor they are working on with China, the BRI. It's also about the energy trade for which Greece is competing with Turkey: the gas Israel-Cyprus gas fields in the Mediterranean.

"Israel and Greece have a status of forces agreement, only the second country Israel has signed one with, besides the United States.

"When I was working at the Hudson Institute think tank in Washington DC we arranged the first ever tripartite summit between Greece, Cyprus and Israel in 2013 for a conference on their political relationship against the backdrop of Turkey becoming an Islamist dictatorship.

"The relationship in 2023 has now evolved into a bona fide security agreement. This is squarely against Turkish ambitions in the region. Egypt is part of this Greece, Cyprus and Israel architecture under [Egyptian President Al] Sisi.

"Turkey might have improved relations with the [Golf Cooperation Council] (GCC), but Egypt, Greece, Cyprus and Israel are still wary and have been preparing themselves for a Turkish military intervention.

"Intervening on behalf of the Palestinians solves both the ideological and geopolitical questions for Turkey. Regarding the US in this scenario, what happens to US servicemen and women if Turkey intervenes? And its nukes? We are in uncharted territory."

The accompanying map explains the competing interests.

The map included in Paradopoulos' tweeX shows the two competing transport visions. The blue line shows the Eurasian part of China's world wide Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) (link) that traverses China's vassal states of Pakistan and Afghanistan (link) and includes the controversial Zangezur Corridor (link) through Armenia's Syunik province.

The red line traces the competing India Middle East Corridor (IMEC) from India into southern Europe, running from Mumbai to Greece and Italy via the UAE and Israel. As a note to the video: China did not build the Athens port of Piraeus, but owns shares as part of the BRI.

Sept. 1, 2023 The Economic Times: IMEC announcement at G20 Explained: Why it is crucial but not a challenge to China’s BRI.

India and Europe may think of transport as a strictly secular, economic activity. But once Turkic Islamists start playing the religious card as they so often do, wiser people may still want to consider such issues. And then there's China to consider as the world's foremost violator of Christian values.

The alliance of Greece with India is expanding apace. The recent visit of Indian PM, Narendra Modi to Athens opened a new chapter in bilateral relations.

India sits in the middle of the Indo-Pacific zone, a vast area that gathers sixty percent of the world’s population and two-thirds of the world’s economy.

The geostrategic value of the Indo-Pacific also lies in the fact that fifty percent of world trade passes through the South China Sea, while the Strait of Malacca is one of the most important shipping lanes in the world.

Due to its vast maritime tradition, strategic ports and maritime shipping, Greece can serve as a critical link for maritime transport between Europe and the Indo-Pacific.

During the August visit to Athens, PM Modi of India was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Order of Honour. Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis said the two countries enjoyed relations stretching back to Alexander the Great and Hellenistic times.

PM Modi said the two countries decided to reinforce bilateral relations in the defense and security sectors, as well as in infrastructure, agriculture, education and technology.

In his November visit to India the General Secretary of Greeks Abroad,  John Chrysoulakis stated that the aim was to upgrade the bilateral ties between Greece and India to the level of Strategic Partnership (more in Greek City Times).

In addition to strategic ties with Israel, Cyprus and Egypt, Athens is is adding the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the mix. The partnership is deepening rapidly through continuous visits from both sides. Not only in the military sector, but also through intelligence sharing, as well as trade and energy.

"It is in this context that a new tripartite partnership is hatching between Greece, the UAE and India" (more in I Kathimerini).

As a result of the Oct. 7 attack of Hamas on Israel, all such plans have been shelved for now. But economic ambitions have simply become too important to let a political problem stemming from a long gone by era, frustrate its interests.
