(LONGREAD) PRIMER ON ARMENIA AND NAGORNO KARABAKH

The globalist plot to draw Armenia proper into the Western camp, while stabbing the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) in the back, is not going to end well. A project based on treason can never become a blessing. Alex Christoforou takes a victory lap and shows that Armenia's PM, Nikol Pashinyan shot himself in the foot legally when he recognized Nagorno Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan. Perhaps the lawyers in Brussels were enjoying an early Happy Hour.

Sep. 26, 2023 Alex Christoforou: Rota takes the fall. Trudeau pivots to Russia. Power in Armenia on the 25:20 mark. Abrams in Ukraine. Lowercase russia.

On the ground the situation is chaotic, as a large section of the population is trying to flee to Armenia proper.

There is a flurry of diplomatic activity by the US and France, but without a shred of remorse, or even empathy towards the victims. The EU is washing its hands of the situation entirely, pretending some natural disaster or other happened here that requires technocratic management.

Azeri dictator Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are pushing for the opening of the so-called "Zangezur Corridor", a transportation corridor that would connect Azerbaijan proper to Turkey via the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, a landlocked Azeri enclave of half a million inhabitants, and traversing through Armenia's Syunik province without checks or controls.

The US and Russia both support such a corridor, but for different reasons. It would contribute immensely to the buildup of the greater Turkic region. What could go wrong, you might ask? Washington hopes that Turkey's greater influence in Central Asia will weaken Russian and Chinese influence.

USAID administrator Samantha Power has arrived in Armenia, acting as if her radiant presence alone would alleviate the plight of the Armenians. She did not tell them that the Biden regime sent US military aid to the Azeri army, but not to Artsakh. Or that Biden refused to enforce sanctions on Azerbaijan. Or that she personally refused to call the starvation caused by the Azerbaijan's blockade a "crisis".

Samantha Power conceived of the concept of R2P, or Responsibility to Protect, an UN norm that seeks to ensure that the 'international community' never fails to halt the mass atrocity crimes of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.

The West, which includes Ms. Power has basically enabled the Azeri attack while preaching to others about "democracy" and "human rights". They had months to send international monitors to the enclave, but instead they plotted to stab the population in the back in order to suck Armenia into the globalist camp.

The history of Nagorno Karabakh is not generally known. Given the present development you would assume that Azerbaijan had some ancient claim on the enclave. But it has none.  In the Soviet period Nagorno Karabakh was an autonomous oblast with its own parliament. In 1920, Turks from the Ottoman Empire and the newfound Azerbaijan Republic unsuccessfully tried to wrest control of Nagorno-Karabakh from the Republic of Armenia.

The September 2020 Turko-Azeri attack on Nagorno-Karabakh coincided with the centenary of the 1920 invasion. But what isn't possible in historic times, can easily be achieved in the present. After all, this is a time of wonders, when the entire Canadian Parliament can applaud a Ukrainian Nazi war criminal, while at the same time claiming not to know who he is!

Note how the West is always pretending to be strictly secular. But somehow or other it is always the Christians that are the victims of their policies. It happened in Serbia, in Kosovo, in Iraq, in Syria and here it happens again.

In the meantime, William Bairamian has relayed an extraordinary statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"The Russian MFA has effectively confirmed that Nikol Pashinyan has treasonously colluded to undermine the sovereignty of Artsakh and the security of Armenia, leading to the ethnic cleansing of over a hundred thousand ethnic Armenians from their millennia-old homeland in favor of appeasing Western powers. One thing to note is how pointed the statement is, quite unusual for any diplomatic text, especially one from the Russians."
