Do you still believe in coincidences? I don't, generally. But we may have found one! When President Donald Trump yesterday included the new Bishop of Rome in his meme after his phone call with President Putin (
link), I had a hearty laugh. Soooo Trump to pull such a stunt. He wrote: "The Vatican, as represented by the Pope, has stated that it would be very interested in hosting the negotiations." Now, I did not connect that particular dot to an attack over the weekend on our favorite online katechist, Father Peter Heers of The Orthodox Ethos (
website) by a minion of the Ecumenical Patriarch in Constantinople, no less.
This person, I think he is the Secretary of the Patriarchate, said that 'Archpriest Peter Heers is not blessed' citing some vaguely worded excuse. But that was not all. He was challenging Father Peter's followers (did he say orthobros?) saying he was fully expecting them to protest the decision, ridiculing them basically.
This is no way to talk to Christians who you just told, they lost their katechist. Coming to the point of this post, call it a coincidence, but just now I caught the following posts in my X ladder.
Now who on earth is the Patriarch of Rome, you might ask. This is what AI tells me:
"The title "Patriarch of Rome" is a complex one with historical and ecclesiastical significance. Pope Francis has recently reinstated the title "Patriarch of the West" for the Bishop of Rome, which is seen as an ecumenical gesture towards the Orthodox Church. This decision was made to foster better relations and unity between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, as it aligns the papacy more closely with the concept of patriarchates in Eastern Christianity. Pope Francis can now use this title as part of his formal papal dignities, though it does not imply a superior position over other patriarchs. In the real world, the term "Patriarch of Rome" is not commonly used to describe the Bishop of Rome, except in the recent reinstatement of the title "Patriarch of the West" by Pope Francis."
Patriarch of the West by the way is a title only rescinded by Pope Benedict XVI. Gird your loins! Ecumenism is basically globalism for the Church.
What is going on with Father Peter is a long story that has been going on for years. Father Peter is basically being frozen out, because he has spoken out against the ecumenical movement in no uncertain terms.
This may be a stupid question, but if Father Peter has no Bishop and has no status, how come he's a frocked Archpriest in the first place? How did that happen?
Here are a few posts that clarify more or less the position of 'limbo' Father Peter has been in for the last couple of years.
It is all very unchristian, but the Pharisees are not going to turn me away from Orthodoxy at this point. All the Ecumenicals have done, is proving Father Peter's point.
