(LIVE BLOG) NETANYAHU DECLARES ISRAEL AT WAR (UPDATE)

After a long pause in hostilities, Israel is again under attack by Iran supported Hamas in Gaza. As it happens Biden just closed a deal with Iran in which five captives were exchanged and the US in addition released six billion dollars to Iran. Commentators have also mentioned warnings of insecure arms aid to Ukraine finding its way across the continent. The present situation is of course still very fluid. Journalist Caroline Glick has an update. She says there are no rules any more. Saudi Arabia was quick to hold Israel responsible. It is very hard if not impossible to heal the psychopathy of a people whose very existence is predicated on hatred and the annihilation of the neighbors.

The damages
The Israel Defense Force is reporting that since 6AM today in Israel: 3,000+ rockets launched by Hamas in Gaza toward Israel. 20+ communities in southern Israel invaded by Hamas terrorist operatives. Terrorists rampaged and broke into homes massacring civilians. Israeli civilians and soldiers have been abducted within Israel and taken hostage into Gaza. 200+ casualties. 1,000+ injured. The war continues as Israel prepares for ground combat.

Hamas figures are as follows: 300+ Israelis killed. 1,500+ wounded. 3,000+ rockets fired into Israel. Dozens of Israeli soldiers and civilians taken hostage and are being held prisoners of war in Gaza. 310+ Palestinians dead. 1,000+ wounded.

Hezbollah in southern Lebanon
There are reports to the contrary, but Dutch freelance journalist Harald Doornbos based in the Middle East is reporting that developments in southern Lebanon with Hezbollah are nuanced.

Hezbollah has fired mortars/rockets from Lebanon at Israeli targets. However, these targets are not in Israel itself, but in Shebaa farms, a tiny part of Lebanon that has been annexed by Israel since 1981.

This must be seen as a warning from Hezbollah to Israel and a kind of symbolic support for Hamas. But it is not the case that Hezbollah now forms a second front in northern Israel. Only if Hezbollah attacks Israel itself (and not just Shebaa farms) will you see a serious escalation between Israel and Hezbollah.
 

Gaza
Since 12 am yesterday, in response to the brutal terrorist offensive against Israel launched by Hamas, the IDF carried out the following operational activities in Gaza. Read the thread in a Threadreader page.

Egypt
Egypt has decided to open the border for women, children and the elderly who want to leave the Gaza Strip. At the same time, Israeli troops are reported to be moving to reinforce Israeli positions on the border with Egypt. 

The Ummah
Remember, the Middle East is complicated and not everything is black and white. The only Muslim countries and territories in the world that support Israel are Azerbaijan and Kosovo. Israel armed Azerbaijan that carried out ethnic cleansing operations of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, and so did Turkey.

The Albanian eparchy of Kosovo is an American protectorate in the Balkans, which terrorizes Serbs and is the base of the biggest mafia in Europe, the Albanian mafia. The largest number of terrorists in ISIS from Europe were from Kosovo. Israel was helping ISIS by constantly bombing Assad's forces as they fought ISIS. Hamas was anti-Assad at first, but later turned.

Intelligence failure
There are tweeXers willing to go all the way launching conspiracy theories on par with 911, as a self inflicted job. It reads along the lines of: I don't believe Israel's intelligence and security apparatus were that incompetent; they let this happen because they needed a new war. 

Those folk do not heed the warning issued by Hanlon's razor: do not ascribe to malice, what can adequately be explained by incompetence. It is not that far a stretch. Israel is a Western country. Meaning, its culture closely follows -- or even sets -- cultural developments in the US and Europe. 

It is home to a vocal liberal crowd that is as much insane as the next American or European liberal. If you realize the wokeisms going on in these continents in the military and in the security states, it is not a stretch to imagine them being more occupied with gender equality and transgenderism than with their actual jobs. 

What's more, Israel is in the throngs of a culture war over judiciary reform that has the emotions of the liberal contingent on edge to the point of collapse (link). And then there are the Abram Accords that may have lulled the security forces into enjoying the peace dividend a tad too much. 

Furthermore there are those keen to blame PM Netanyahu, which technically he is, since this happened on his watch. But we shall have to wait a bit for proper analysis of what has been going on in the last few peaceful years, when and where demoralization precisely set in. 

Abram Accords
According to Jonathan Tobin present attacks are at least in part a response of Hamas -- with the acquiesce of Iran -- to efforts that would involve the Palestinians in negotiations between Saudi Arabia and Israel (video at 7:25 mark). It gives pause to the official statement from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, holding Israel responsible. 

What is going on?
Alex Christoforou may have part of the key to this blitz attack. Apparently there is a three party deal in the making between the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia, in which the Saudis would recognize Israel in exchange for some defense plan with the US, including civilian nuclear technology.

Also the Saudis would agree to distance itself from its new alliances with the BRICS countries and increase oil output during the 2023/2024 presidential election cycle (link).  The high oil price is one of Biden's major head aches of his own making. You got to wonder what happened to Israel's intelligence and security structure. With its large liberal contingent Israel is in the vanguard of the culture war. That can't happen without seriously undermining the unity and the health of a nation.
